Q14. How do I enter a substance that does not have a CAS number?

Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) registry numbers is required in E-Plan. The CAS number of the chemical or mixture, typically shown at the top of the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) or under Section 15: Regulatory Information.

Most mixtures have not been assigned CAS numbers. If a mixture has one or more hazardous components, it is common to find the CAS numbers of those hazardous components listed in Section 3 of the mixture's SDS. However, very few mixtures have a CAS number assigned to the mixture as a whole.

If you do not know the CAS number for the chemical being entered, leave it BLANK in the CAS number field. However, please note that in such a case, the system will not be able to provide any additional information to the First Responders.
